About Nugget Report

An independent reference for nugget and countertop ice makers, written by one enthusiast who reads the manuals.

What this is

A reference publication about one narrow appliance category: nugget ice makers, and the countertop machines around them. It reads like the front page of a specialist newspaper because that is what it is trying to be — datelines, bylines, sourced numbers, and a stated method — rather than a shopping blog.

It exists because of a gap we found while researching the category. Not one ranking roundup we examined publishes a running cost for any machine. Almost nobody draws the distinction between cleaning and descaling. And several of the most-quoted numbers about the best-selling machine in the category turn out to belong to a different machine.

Who writes it

Scooter M.. Scooter M. is an enthusiast who's genuinely into this. I read the manuals, compile the published specs, and do the math. No lab coat.

That is the whole biography, and it is deliberately short. There is no credential to list, no tenure to claim and no lab to describe, so listing one would be a fabrication. What there is: manufacturer manuals read end to end, specifications compiled and cited, and arithmetic done in the open.

What we do not do

  • We do not test machines. We have not used any of the products on this site. Every page says so rather than leaving it to be inferred.
  • We accept no free units. No manufacturer review copies, no loans, no samples.
  • We take no sponsored placements. No manufacturer can buy a position in a ranking here, or a mention, or a better write-up.
  • We do not publish testimonials or star ratings from anywhere else. There are none on this site, because there is nothing real to draw them from.
  • We do not invent a number to fill a gap. When a manufacturer publishes nothing, the page says Not published. That happens a lot, and it is one of the more useful things here.

How it is funded

Affiliate commission. When you buy through a link on this site we earn a percentage, at no additional cost to you. It does not affect what we recommend or how we rank it, and every commercial page carries a disclosure above its first affiliate link rather than only in the footer.

The full statement, including the Amazon Associates disclosure, is on the disclosure page.

How we work

Every specification on this site comes from the manufacturer's own documentation, in a fixed order of preference: support documentation and owner's manuals first, manufacturer product pages second, retailer listings last and flagged when used. Every value carries a link to its source and the date we read it.

Where sources disagree, we publish both and name the discrepancy rather than quietly picking one. There is a live example on this site: GE publishes 24 lbs a day and 38 lbs a day for "the Opal", and we can show you which document says which and why.

The complete method, including the running-cost arithmetic, is on the methodology page. How content is maintained and corrected is on the editorial policy.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it and say we did. Material corrections are noted at the foot of the page with the date and what changed. Publishing corrections openly is the natural companion to publishing a method.

Publisher

Nugget Report is published by Slate Mill Group. It is a national publication with no premises, no phone line and no service area, which is why you will not find an address on this site and why we do not publish local-business schema pretending otherwise.
