Editorial Policy

What gets published, what does not, who decides, and what happens when we get something wrong.

1. Editorial independence

  • No manufacturer, retailer or affiliate network has any influence over what appears here, in what order, or with what verdict.
  • No sponsored placements. No paid rankings. No paid mentions.
  • No free products, review samples or loans are accepted, so there is nothing to feel obliged about.
  • Affiliate commission never affects a ranking. Where a cheaper machine is the better buy, the page says so even though the commission is smaller.

That last point is worth being concrete about. Our nugget roundup ranks a machine whose maker publishes 185 W above one that costs considerably more, because the published data supports it. The whole point of a written policy is to make that kind of decision checkable after the fact.

2. What we publish

  1. Specifications, taken from manufacturer documentation and cited to the document with the date we read it. The source hierarchy is on the method page.
  2. Arithmetic, shown in full, from cited inputs. Running costs, unit conversions, cost per pound of ice.
  3. Editorial judgment, clearly marked as ours: which machine suits whom, what a specification means in practice, and what we would buy.
  4. Absences. Where a manufacturer publishes nothing, we publish the fact that they publish nothing.

3. What we refuse to publish

Absolute prohibitions. These are not judgment calls.
We never publishBecause
A claim to have tested a productWe have not. It would be a fabrication and an FTC deception, and it is the easiest claim for anyone to falsify
A specification we could not sourceAn estimate presented in a spec table is indistinguishable from a fact
A spec borrowed from a similar modelSame problem, with an extra step
A number from another publisherWe cannot check their method, so we cannot stand behind it
Testimonials, reviews or ratings from elsewhereThere is nothing real to draw them from and inventing them is unforgivable
A credential, award or years of experienceNone exist. See the author section below
A price typed by handPrices come only from the live data layer, which suppresses anything over 48 hours old
A star rating in structured dataMarking an editorial score up as a product rating would contradict our own copy about not testing

4. Authorship

Every page is written by Scooter M., and every byline links to the method page rather than to a biography of achievements, because the claim being made is about how the work was done.

No credential, qualification, tenure or professional title is claimed anywhere on this site, in copy or in structured data, because none is held. The author schema carries a name and a description and nothing else.

5. Commercial content

  • Every commercial page carries a disclosure above its first affiliate link, not only in the footer.
  • Every affiliate link carries rel="sponsored nofollow noopener", and routes through a resolver that is excluded from search indexing.
  • Every buy control carries an #ad marker and a link to the full disclosure, including when there is no live price to show.
  • Some pages carry no product links at all, on purpose. Where that is the case the page says why — the dental-health page and the electrical fault-finding page are both deliberate.

Full statement: the affiliate disclosure.

6. Maintenance

Review cadence.
WhatHow often
PricesDaily, automated, with a 48-hour freshness gate
Specifications on primary pagesQuarterly re-verification against source
Running-cost figuresTwice yearly, on new EIA data
Roundup rankingsQuarterly
Procedures and manualsAnnually, or when a model is revised

The Updated date on a page changes only when the content changed. We do not bump a date to look fresh, and we do not put a year in a headline that we then leave stale.

7. Corrections

  1. Report an error to us and we aim to respond and correct within 7 days.
  2. Material corrections are noted at the foot of the affected page, with the date and what changed.
  3. If a manufacturer revises a published specification, the page changes and the change is noted.
  4. We do not quietly edit a number out of a page. Publishing corrections openly is the companion to publishing a method.

8. Conflicts of interest

Nugget Report is published by Slate Mill Group, which operates other publications. No manufacturer or retailer covered here has any ownership interest in this site, and no commercial relationship exists beyond standard affiliate programs available to any publisher.
